Every year, when the term of the appointed magistrates came to an end, the Academicians organized a stravizzo, a banquet during which the cicalata, a humorous speech on a frivolous subject, was read and charges could be brought against the ex-magistrates. On the occasion of such banquets, which would be more or less sumptuous depending on the occasion, delicious and refined dishes were served. Some of the bills of fare as well as the lists of ingredients of the dishes have been preserved. In the Italian version of this page you can find a sample menu from just such a banquet.
