The new illiteracies in the society of knowledge

Florence, 1st December, 2006, h. 15.30
Accademia della Crusca, Villa di Castello, Via di Castello 46

This conference was a joint initiative with the Regione Toscana to present the results of research undertaken by the IRPET (Istituto Regionale per la Programmazione Economica della Toscana) with the collaboration of the Accademia della Crusca, for a survey commissioned by the Regione Toscana to assess the regional situation on illiteracy, particularly the new emerging illiteracies, understood as forms of cultural impoverishment that can, in extreme situations, limit an individual's actions, especially in communicative and situational contexts that are typical of complex societies like ours.

The Accademia's role was to investigate and assess the linguistic competences of young Tuscans, especially those from universities and high schools. Raffaella Setti, Mara Marzullo and Neri Binazzi designed a questionnaire that was administered to a non-statistical but tailored sample of students.

The Italian version of this page contains many documents related to this meeting, as well as interviews with some of the main accomplishers of this research.
