The eight papers of the day dealt with the subject of the Italian language in television, radio, cinema, the internet and political communication. The contributions dedicated to television discussed some of the linguistic aspects of soap opera, talk-shows and reality tv; those on the Italian used in broadcasting presented the first results that have emerged from the corpus of writings of the forthcoming publication LIR-Lessico dell’Italiano Radiofonico (Lexicon of Italian in Broadcasting) and analysed some of the linguistic aspects of the information presented on radio and television. Another paper analysed the relationship between cinema and literature, with a spotlight on the filmic versions of books of a new generation of authors, while the contribution dedicated to the language of the internet discussed, from a sociolinguistic point of view, the various communication channels offered by the web from. The final paper studied aspects of the political language of the last elections (2006).
At the end of the day, Gabriella Alfieri (University of Catania) and Siro Ferrone (University of Florence) presented Stefania Stefanelli's book, Va in scena l’italiano, raccolta di saggi sull’italiano teatrale, the latest volume printed for the series “L’italiano in pubblico”, directed by Nicoletta Maraschio and Sergio Raffaelli and published by Cesati, in Florence.
