In February 2007, the newspaper "La Repubblica" launched an initiative for the restoration of 53 precious volumes belonging to the Library of the Accademia della Crusca.
Several private citizens, institutions and associations, mostly from the Florentine territory, but also from the rest of Tuscany and even from outside it, have adhered enthusiastically to the initiative. It has thus been possible to gather a generous monetary fund to allow the library to safeguard important volumes that belong to the literary and linguistic history of our country for many years. Of the 53 volumes that are in need of urgent restoration, 46 have already been "adopted".
The restoration works are ongoing: after the preparation of the technical cards for each volume, the Accademia has presented the whole project to the Regione Toscana, which has supervisory functions over the library’s holdings. After the approval of the project, the restoration was assigned to a specialized company.
